The Philippines and the Real Pillar of Diplomacy
“Diplomacy works only if you are carrying a big stick or
you have with you lots of friends, all of them carrying a big stick. - Unknown”
“Political power grows from the barrel of the gun. - Mao
Tse Tung"
“Don’t forget your great guns, which are the most
respectable arguments of the rights of kings. - Frederick
the Great.”
“Guns will make us powerful;
butter will only make us
fat. - Herman Goering”
The bureaucracy and the elect have come to the realization (at least they pretend to have) that there is some truth in
the foregoing words uttered by some great and some infamous men in the old arena of geopolitics. In
fact, lots of truth as history and the Philippine’s on-going effort to rearm, would
attest. The firm realization comes after knocking at doors of UNCLOS, ASEAN,
the US of A and the world. The revelation is disheartening, that geopolitics is not only
about goodwill, but also more about thinking like Mao and Frederick and
Herman. The world is inutile amid the abuse of power, non-reactive... and in all its passivity is staring blank at the
spectacle, mesmerized... inattentive... it is almost in a state of stupor, blinded
by the intense darkness of its own motive... which is best.. to avoid waking up
in sobriety, lest be accuse of biases and consequently be punish by the new
and emerging power? One can suspect that the world may only be awakened by the thundering
clap on the horizon. It can only smell the propellant blown by the
easterly. It can only be moved by the rise of the crimson tide. Then, they will gather in a “mesa”,
talking in modulation and subdued tone, they will shake their heads, then, they
will leave and that will be the start of the end.
What a waste, ... it would be.
